Growing in the Dark

Jesus said, “Except a grain of wheat fall to the ground and die, it abides alone. But if it dies, it brings forth much fruit.”

2020 proved to be a year of struggle. For many, the struggled occurred in a dark place. For some, the struggle is not over.

Maybe you’re struggling right now in a dark place. You don’t see how in the world life can get any worse. Maybe you question why you have to face such hardships.

Seeds germinate in dark places, don’t they?

Mighty oaks are born out of dark places. They spring forth in adverse circumstances.

We are like those mighty oaks. Jesus wants to cultivate us and grow us into the purpose He’s planted in us.

We can choose to stay in those dark places of grief, pain and loneliness. Or, we can decide to open your ears and listen for Jesus’s voice.

We can stand around in the mire of sin, anger, jealousy, envy, strife and unforgiveness. Or, we can stretch up towards His light and begin to live out the call God has given us.

Because when all is said and done, It’s up to us to believe what God says to us for ourselves.

I believe He wants us to begin to speak life into each other.

To speak purpose over one another.

To speak truth with one another.

To minister to one another in Agape Love (God’s Love).

We will begin to do this when we lay aside the lies the enemy whispers in our ears, and we focus on what God says about us.

It doesn’t matter what other people think, do or say about you, or your problems, or your worries.

God desires us to see ourselves and one another the way He sees us in Christ. A new creation, a free man or woman, fully forgiven, called by His name and for His purpose. He’s working even when we don’t see it. He wants us to win; all of heaven wants us to win.

His arm is not shortened that it cannot save; His ear is not dull that He can’t hear your cry.

He sees. He knows. And there’s plenty of room at the feet of Jesus.

No one can stop what Jesus wants for you. Only you can.

I asked the Lord what would be the most helpful in moving us closer to His heart, closer to one another, and closer to our God-given purpose.

God gave me seven statements that have the power to help us overcome the voice of the enemy and allow seeds of purpose to germinate in our very being.

These statements are not to exalt us, but to exalt the God in us.

The truth of God’s word stands behind each of these statements. It is His Word that grounds us in God’s truth, focuses our attention on the source of the power that lies within us, and humbles us when we become aware of the Glory of God working through us.

I believe these seven statements are like precious seed the Master Gardener wants to sow in your hearts. Once buried that seed of potential, planted by God, will germinate and grow. It will burst forth in your hearts, transform your lives and bring forth a harvest for Him.

  1. It’s an obvious simple truth, but it stopped me in my tracks. “Seeds germinate in dark places, don’t they?” Thank you. It was a beautiful reminder of God’s purposes.

  2. Thank you, Carla, for your encouraging message. We need it! I especially appreciate your reminder that there is “plenty of room at the feet of Jesus.” Oh! To be more like Mary–soaking up the wonderful lessons sitting at the feet of Jesus.

  3. Carla, what encouraging words you shared. I paused to focus on this sentence: “Jesus wants to cultivate us and grow us into the purpose He’s planted in us.” How exciting and biblical. He does the planting and the growing as we avail ourselves to Him. Thank you for the seven statements.

  4. Well said Ms. Carla. For seeds to grow, we must have the right nourishment and conditions for growth. Otherwise, we simply take up space while we rot from the inside and die. Growth requires fertile ground my friend. That comes from what we sow into our souls. Amen ma’am!

  5. Those seeds push through the dark earth and reach toward the light getting nourishment from the sun. As we reach toward the light in our dark places, we grow stronger because we are getting nourishment from the Son.
