A Tale of Two Mothers

Two mothers watched with loving eyes their boys outside at play.
Each one full of future hope as they laughed the day away.

"Do you dream of your son's future?" Said one mother to the other.
"Yes, I have. And this I know," said the other with a shudder.

"He will be a gracious man, full of life, and hope, and love.
He’ll have no place to rest his head, no treasure but from above.

He’ll reach the hearts of many though his years here might be few."
"Well," said the other, "Let me tell of my son before we get too blue.

He’ll rise in stature, strong and smart, and climb the social ladder.
He’ll make a fortune with his cunning. How? It doesn’t matter.

My son will be first. He'll not be last in this race we call life.
And if he’s smart, he won’t tie himself down with children or with wife.

He’ll wait until he’s amassed his wealth before settling down, you see.
Then, he’ll have time to take a wife. And they’ll both come live with me."

"We must be going," said the humble mother as she turned to call her son.
"I pray the best for you and your child. We really did have fun."

"Oh, yes! The Best! That’s what we’ll have. Gold! Mansions! Chariots!
Wherever you go, remember his name. It’s Judas Iscariot."
